The second oldest Govt. college of Teachers’ Education (T.T. College) was established in the year 1960 and the first batch of B.T. candidates was appeared at the final exam under Gauhati University at Gauhati University centre.

C.T.E. Silchar organizes training programs, workshops, and research to help teachers adopt modern methods. It supports key initiatives like NIPUN Assam (foundational literacy), NISHTHA (teacher training), ECCE (Early Childhood Care and Education), Vocational Education, Value Education and 21st Century Skills such as critical thinking, creativity and digital literacy.

In addition, C.T.E. Silchar is actively involved in community outreach, promoting education awareness and local development through programs and engagement with local communities.

In 1962, Gauhati University accorded affiliation and allowed a centre for B.T. exam at Silchar.The college was taken over the Govt. of Assam on the 1st April, 1983 and came under the jurisdiction of Assam University on 21st January, 1994. C.T.E. Silchar offers:
